How do we build trust, inclusion and engage young audiences? These are existential problems facing both journalism and the societies we hope to inform.
Big problems require radical solutions. “Business as usual” isn’t going to help us solve these issues, and until we better reflect all our people and communities, then we’re doomed to repeat the failures of the past.
So how do we reimagine journalism to better reflect the world we live in? In this session, Shirish will set out a framework for telling more inclusive stories, engaging with communities and building a more representative journalism that’s truly fit for the future. Shirish Kulkarni have more than 25 years experience working in all the UK’s major broadcast newsrooms. His expertise spans innovation, storytelling, AI, inclusion, mental health and engaged journalism. Besides working as a freelance journalist, is he also a researcher and trainer, and as Community Organiser at The Bureau of Investigative Journalism.
